The trio burst onto the scene with the release of the debut album, ‘Weave and Spin’ in summer 2011, which received much critical acclaim and was declared an ‘Album of the Week’ by The Independent. Their live performances during the festival season created a real buzz and they were nominated for the Horizon Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2012 and for Best Debut at the 2012 Spiral Awards. Whether singing unaccompanied, or with backing from their combined instrumental talents on accordion, harp and fiddle, be prepared to be enchanted by rich harmonies and sumptuous clashes.

We are sorry to say that this event has been cancelled due to Ashley’s ill-health.

Refunds will be available, on production of the tickets, from Chinley Stores, from Tues 17th September. Alternatively, please send the tickets to Chris with your name and address, and a cheque will be sent to you.

You can also drop by Chinley Community Centre at 7pm on THurs 19th Sept, where a cash refund will be available on production of the tickets. 

James Hickman and Dan Cassidy

Hickman’s emotive, soaring vocals and driving guitar is complemented by Cassidy’s ingenious and virtuosic fiddling.

Their sound flows from the connection between British and American folk and is bursting with all the humour, heartbreak and excitement of these genres.

The lively English wit of Hickman is set against Cassidy’s bone-dry irony and American drawl as they take audiences on a dynamic and unforgettable transatlantic journey.

Ashley Hutchings is known as the Father of British Folk-Rock and is often referred to as The Guv’nor. He co-founded legendary folk rock groups: Fairport Convention; Steeleye Span and The Albion Band. He is not only a musician and composer but also a poet and has been a musical director at the National Theatre. He has been performing in community venues for several years with his young group The Rainbow Chasers but this year he has joined forces with the exceptional Ken Nicol who was a long standing member of The Albion Band and was, until recently, the lead guitarist for Steeleye Span.

This special evening sees the two talented musicians perform songs from their new album ‘Copper, Russet and Gold. Ashley and Ken’s friendly banter, stories and anecdotes are always a joy as we get an insight into the phenomenal successes these two brilliant musicians have had.
